  1. What materials does ASHP offer to help pharmacists preparing for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification Exams?

    ASHP offers the following materials to prepare pharmacists for the Ambulatory Care, Pharmacotherapy, and Oncology certification exams:

    • Review Course
      • Available live and online
      • Course utilized a case based format, covering multiple disease states, standards and guidelines
    • Core Therapeutic Modules (CTM)
      • Available online on ASHP eLearning
      • Modules utilize a case based format, covering a single disease state, standards and guidelines, including practice questions to test your knowledge
      • There are a total of 14 modules (worth a grand total of 16 hours of CE):
        • Cardiac Arrhythmias and Advance Cardiac Life Support
        • Congestive Heart Failure
        • Diabetes
        • GI Disorders
        • HIV/AIDS
        • Infectious Diseases
        • Men’s Health
        • Neurological Disorders
        • Nutrition, Fluid, and Electrolytes

      • Practice Test
      • Available online on ASHP eLearning
      • Questions are based from content discussed in the Review Course and includes the rationale of the correct answer, link to the reference source, and domains, tasks, and knowledge statements. Questions are cross referenced with a module so the learner can easily pinpoint the presentation to review.

  2. What are the different components of the ASHP Recertification Programs?

    ASHP offers the following opportunities to earn BPS recertification credit hours:

    • Review Course for Recertification
      • Available live and online
      • Course utilized a case based format, covering multiple disease states, standards and guidelines
      • Opportunity to earn 16 recertification credit hours
    • Intensive Study
      • Held live at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting and available online
      • Advanced level programming in contemporary topics for board certified practitioners in Ambulatory Care and Pharmacotherapy.
      • Opportunity to earn 6 recertification credit hours
    • Literature Studies
      • Available online on ASHP eLearning
      • Pertinent articles reviewed, compiled for board certified practitioners in Ambulatory Care and Pharmacotherapy.
      • Recertification hours vary per specialty

  3. How do I earn BPS recertification credit?

    To earn recertification credits for any activity, you must participate in the entire activity and successfully complete the online assessment by the deadline. Only completed tests will be eligible for credit; no partial or incomplete tests will be processed. Note that CE hours will count towards the year in which the online assessment expires.

    +BCACP: Need 100 recertification hours during the 7-year recertification cycle.  No more than 50 hours of CE credit will be accepted by BPS prior to the end of the 3rd year of the recertification cycle.  However, all 100 hours may be earned during the last 4 years of recertification.

    *Please note, Review and Recertification Courses offered by either of the approved BCACP providers may only be completed for recertification credit up to two times, in nonconsecutive years, during the 7-year recertification cycle (i.e., maximum of 2 Review Courses can be taken in 7 years).

    In August of each year.

  10. How is the test administered?

    New in 2014, the examination will be administered via computer at test locations. Check BPS’ web site for potential locations.

  11. When is the exam given?

    Rather than test on a single day, candidates can choose their own testing day within the test administration window beginning in September through October of each year.  Please note that most testing centers are not open on Sundays.

    Review and Recertification Courses offered by either of the approved providers may only be completed for recertification credit up to two times, in nonconsecutive years, during the 7-year recertification cycle.
